Big Brother

No bones about it. Holden is a mother hen. Wrong sex I know, so perhaps I should call him a father hen. He nurtures, protects, and gets his share of teasing in with his sisters and brother.

Since he began driving, he has been helping with some of the evening taxi runs. On one such run this week, Aubry spilled her guts about friends and friendship. Holden took it upon himself to be her sounding board and to provide wise council.

Upon arriving home he shared, “Aubs was having a hard time, so we talked. She’s good now.”

I thanked him for stepping up, for being there for his sister. And in my heart, I sang; he is what I would have wanted—a supportive and loving older sibling, rich with compassion and empathy, a big brother who lets his brother and sisters know they matter.
